PDP (Personal Development Planning) Case Studies |
Case StudiesBA Childhood StudiesStudents on this new degree programme will be using e-portfolios as tools for reflection and assessment throughout their time at the University. As part-time, non-traditional entrants* they are approaching university study in combination with career, family and other commitments, and will use their e-portfolios to help make connections between the various strands of their personal and professional lives. The first group of 30 students have now had two face-to-face training sessions to introduce them to the e-portfolio they will be using - Portfolio, based on the Open Source Portfolio (http://www.theospi.org/). Starting with materials from one of their courses - Community Education Work Based Learning 1 - they have familiarised themselves with the interface and learned about the ways in which Portfolio allows them to collect, reflect on and share digital artifacts (including assignments, presentations and web resources). One feature in particular was developed for these students - a weblog (blog) tool, which provides a space for reflective writing and the ability to attach files and web links to individual entries. If you would like more information about the BA Childhood Studies, contact the course organiser, Dr John Davis. * As part of a course exploring digital environments for learning, John Davis, Jen Ross and Sarah Morton wrote a web essay about whether e-learning could meet the needs of non-traditional learners. The essay is available at http://www.diglearn.org.uk |
