About ERDEE
Background
Funding for ERDEE has come from the department of Educational Studies for 5 months (to the end of September 2005), and from the Principal's e-Learning Fund to the end of June 2006.
The funding will be used to explore and develop the use of e-portfolios within the School of Education as a tool for learning, reflection, assessment, personal development planning (PDP) and continuing professional development (CPD).
This is a key time for e-portfolios both at the University of Edinburgh and nationally in the context of PDP, of which the delivery of e-portfolios is likely to form a central part.
Also of particular relevance for many programmes within the School is the potential for e-portfolios to be used in conjunction with tools (including weblogs) for reflective writing. Professional bodies connected to education, such as CeVe, SSSC and GTC are also likely to have a range of interests in e-portfolios as evidence to be used towards accreditation.
Objectives and outcomes
ERDEE objectives and outcomes will include:
- develop a strategy and model for the School of Education in adopting e-portfolios to meet PDP requirements;
- explore existing portfolio and progress file activities within the School and link in with these where possible;
- investigate the PDP needs and priorities of relevant professional bodies (eg: CeVe, SSSC, GTC) and incorporate these in to the School's PDP strategy;
- promote the benefits of e-portfolios to staff within the School;
- identify barriers to takeup and develop strategies to address these;
- support staff who want to implement e-portfolios;
- provide training for staff and, if appropriate, students in the use of e-portfolio software;
- act as e-portfolio liaison between the School and MALTS, MIS, computing services, etc.;
- articulate and further the School's interests in terms of e-portfolio technology at University level;
- network with other institutions to share best practice and communicate ideas;
- demonstrate a model for innovative School-level e-portfolio development within the University;
- disseminate outcomes internally and externally.
